Tony Ferguson is likely to confront the winner of UFC 242

Tony Ferguson seems to be the next candidate for Lightweight belt competition.

With a ban on all competitions (due to the fight in UFC 229) will expire within a month, Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagormedov will unify the Lightweight UFC belt in September before Dustin Poirier during the UFC 242 event.

As for Dustin Poirier, he just won against Max Holloway in April and will become the 28th puncher who has the opportunity to win against Khabib - a mission that all Khabib challengers have failed.

Impossible mission 28: Dustin Poirier will defeat the unbeaten champion Khabib Nurmagomedov

The match will take place at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. This promises to be an opportunity for UFC to collect huge profits.

Because Khabib is in third place on the UFC pound-for-pound table, many fans and experts allege that Khabib is sure to win against Poirier and is predicting Khabib's next step.

If Khabib agrees to rematch with Conor McGregor, Khabib, Conor and UFC will gain huge profits. However Khabib confirmed that he did not intend to compete with Conor for the second time last week. That makes Tony Ferguson the best choice.

Tony Ferguson currently owns a series of 12 consecutive victories after defeating Donald Cerrone at UFC 238.

Ferguson v Khabib has been scheduled four times but for many reasons it was impossible, however Dana White said Khabib would agree after he won in Abu Dhabi.

“Khabib will be meek with Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi in September. Then let's wait and see. Tony Ferguson just won Cerrone, I think he will be next.

As for McGregor, although his coach believes that McGregor will return to the UFC in 2019, The Notorious will be hard-pressed to face another fighter to win the candidate's position. Instead Conor McGregor will make Dana White special for him to compete for the title.
