Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier preview: The unbeaten performance is more important than the glory

Let us come to some predictions as well as preview about the clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier in the UFC 242.

There have been many boxers who moved up or down the weight ladder after failing in the original weight class. Although the boxers won the championship in the new weight class, Khabib believed that boxers were not considered great.

According to the lightweight champion UFC Khabib Nurmagomedov, a martial artist's legacy is confirmed based on what he has done at the chosen weight class, and not the ability to choose an opponent that is easier to win in the other weight class.

"I think if people want to build a legacy by changing their weight, I don't think that's a useful way," Nurmagomedov said. There is only one way to build heritage. You have to win against emerging fighters. Winning tough opponents and keeping the unbeaten record, I think the legacy at that time was further developed”.

Nurmagomedov (27-0) started playing at UFC in 2012 and won a series of 11 matches before confronting former champion two-weight champion Conor McGregor last year. After the victory over Conor Mcgregor, Khabib got into a scuffle and so he was banned from playing temporarily. The UFC 242 event this weekend will be his return to octagon cage.

“If a boxer loses a few times and wins a championship belt, 2 championship belts, loses again, then becomes the 3rd champion, this does not make that fighter great. As I thought, unbeaten achievement says it all. I won't move to Welterweight or Featherweight, my playground is in Lightweight”.

This weekend, Russia's "Eagle" will face off against boxer holder Interim Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, taking place at The Arena in Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. If Khabib wins, he will give Tony Ferguson - who held the title temporarily but was stripped of his injuries - a chance to compete.
