Defeating Felix Auger Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini first won the Stuttgart Open

Matteo Berrettini first crowned champion at the Stuttgart Open 2019 after surprisingly beating No. 7 seed Felix Auger Aliassime in the final with 6-4 7-6 (13-11). This is also the 3rd ATP title in the career of Italian players.

Contributing to the final of the Stuttgart Open this year are two names that are quite unfamiliar to tennis fans: Felix Auger Aliassime and Matteo Berrettini. On the ATP rankings, Felix Auger Aliassime ranked 21 in the world while Matteo Berrettini ranked 22. Before the final of Stuttgart Open 2019, the two had never met in the past.

Entering the match, despite being underestimated, Matteo Berrettini suddenly had a break in the third game. In the following games, Felix Auger Aliassime fought very hard in order to reclaim the break to balance the score. But the young Canadian player did not succeed and had to accept to lose node 4-6 in set 1.

This victory gave Matteo Berrettini the first Stuttgart Open in his career, receiving a prize of 117,500 Euro. This is also the third ATP title of the Italian player (after Budapest and Gstaad). With Felix Auger Aliassime, the young Canadian talent had a third fall in the ATP finals this season. He had lost in Rio and Lyon earlier.
