Suffer from injury, Lucas Pouille misses Australian Open

French tennis player Lucas Pouille confirmed that he would withdraw from the 2020 Australian Open due to the elbow issue.

2019 was a freaky year with Lucas Pouille. Under the guidance of women tennis coach Amelie Mauresmo, Pouille surprised the audience when he had the first win in the Australian Open.

After that, he won four more games to advance to the semi-finals. Although Pouille was beaten by Novak Djokovic, it was the best result of Grand Slam tournaments in his career. Thanks to that performance, his rank climbed up to the tenth in March.

However, that was all of his best in 2019. After impressive form at Australian Open, Pouille went down significantly.

Except for the Cincinnati Masters, Pouille could not step further than the second round at all the competitions he participated in. Moreover, at the end of the year, he also suffered from an injury, which made him hardly play since October.

Because of that, he also withdrew from many events. Pouille thought that resting would help him come back soon, but things did not happen.

Pouille's elbow injury was worse than he thought, so he could not play in January. As a result, he would be forced to withdraw from the ATP Cup as a member of the France team, as well as giving up the chance to compete at the Australian Open.
