Djokovic is officially the former champion of the Shanghai Master

The defeat against Tsitsipas cut off the journey to protect the championship of the No. 1 player Novak Djokovic in Shanghai this year.

Before entering the match, Stefanos Tsitsipas welcomed the good news when he had enough points to London to attend the ATP Finals 2019 for the first time.

Young Greek talents started slowly and pay the price with the first set of losses. However, in the last 2 sets, Tsitsipas played much better when taking advantage of the mistakes of the No. 1 player in the world. Without facing a break-point, he broke the game at the end of the set to win and bring the match to the deciding set.

In the final set, the No. 6 seed continued to maintain dangerous serves and ended the game after 2 consecutive ace shots. During the 2 hour and 3 minutes match, Tsitsipas won 83% of the first serve (49/59) and faced a single break-point in the first set.

This defeat pushes Djokovic to be replaced by Rafael Nadal in the world No. 1 on November 4th. The return to number one ATP on November 4th will help Nadal have at least 2 more weeks at the top of the ATP rankings until the ATP Finals 2019 ends.
