In the 1500th match at ATP, Roger Federer had 34 winner points, made 18 self-defeating errors and won the game five times. Almost perfect momentum to help "Express train" towards the 10th title in Basel. At the ATP Tour, Federer won 10 times at the Noventi Open grass field in Halle, Germany.
Gojowcyzk No. 112 in the world took advantage of the only break-point success in the match, but also only twice succeeded in keeping the game delivered. Gojowcyzk completely lost in the series with Federer and put the racket 1-6, 2-6 after only 53 minutes.
"I adapted quite quickly to the pitch, which is a positive thing," Federer said. "Peter played very well on the indoor court. He won against Karlovic - the strong pitcher - in the qualifying round. I was well prepared for this game and that gave a good start".
A good start to Europe's indoor hard court season helped Federer win his 21st straight match at Basel. This is also the 72nd victory in Federer's 81 matches in the ATP 500. In the next round, the owner of 20 Grand Slam will meet Radu Albot or Dusan Lajovic.
"I will have a day off before playing on Wednesday," Federer added. "I guess it will be a tough game".
