Marcelo Melo becomes the first Brazilian to hit 500 wins in tennis history

Along with teammate Lukasz Kubot, Marcelo Melo went into history with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the first round of the 2019 Citi Open.

The 500th victory of Marcelo Melo's career in the men's doubles led him to become the first Brazilian player to hit that milestone, and also the 35th person in history to do the same thing.

The 35-year-old has 32 men's doubles ATP titles along with 8 different teammates, with Lukasz Kubot alone 12 championships.

Also in the double match, Marcelo Melo won the 9 Masters, next to Roland Garros 2015 (along with Ivan Dodig) and Wimbledon 2017 (along with Kubot).

Although 30 of the 34 players before him in the 500 winning club have retired, Melo has no plans and he is looking forward to a new milestone.

The players have the greatest number of duel match wins at all time:

1 Mike Bryan 1.138

2 Bob Bryan 1.097

3 Daniel Nestor 1,062

4 Todd Woodbridge 782
