Luxembourg Open 2019: Cori Gauff lost surprisingly after winning the WTA

15-year-old Cori Gauff lost to Anna Blinkova 4-6, 0-6 in the Luxembourg Open first round on October 16th.

Three days after the debut in Linz, Austria, Coco Gauff received the most rapid defeat since becoming a professional. The poor 15-year-old cried to tears on the day opponent Anna Blinkova had only five self-defeating errors.

Before losing the match, Gauff could win a game when catching the ball in set one. But finally, Blinkova won the set the first set by 6-4.

Gauff started the poor set two when she lost to two serve games and was led 0-3. Her father, Mr. Corey Gauff, came down to the stadium to encourage her but this was ineffective. Gauff cried and when she came on the field again, she was scared and constantly let the opponent attack. Gauff won no game in the second set and lost 4-6, 0-6 after 59 minutes.

Anna Blinkova ranked 66th in the world, only five places more than Gauff. The Russian player scored 18 winners and only made five mistakes herself in the match she played very carefully against the young opponent.

"I know she is a talented and just won last week", Blinkova said. "So I have prepared very well for the game and tried to reduce her excitement."

Gauff is the youngest player to have won a WTA tournament since 2004. The 15-year-old has been in the fourth round of Wimbledon and the third round of the US Open this year. Last week, Gauff won against the 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko to get the WTA Linz Open title.
