Denis Shapovalov heads to the historic opportunity in 2019 Winston-Salem Open

The 20-year-old Denis Shapovalov is heading to the first ATP final of his career at the ATP 250 tournament that is taking place in Winston-Salem.

Defeating opponents from Russia 6-3, 7-6 (4), Denis Shapovalov won the second ATP semi-final in this season, after the Miami Open in March.

Young Canadian talent scored 10 live-serve passes and won 61% of the previous two-game spot Andrey Rublev - who just beat Roger Federer in Cincinnati last week.

Shapovalov will meet Hubert Hurkacz in the upcoming match, after the Polish player overcame Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1. Hurkacz won Shapovalov in Indian Wells this year.

The other semi-final will take place between No. 1 seed Benoit Paire and Steve Johnson. The Frenchman defeated Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3 to search for his third ATP title this season, behind Lyon and Marrakech.

Johnson, who won the ATP Challenger Tour at Aptos 2 weeks ago, came up against the 14th seed John Millman 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to play the first ATP semifinal match at 2019.
