Davis Cup 2019: Djokovic, Nadal and Murray all contributed to their national team's success

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray all contributed to the victory in the group stage of the Serbian, Spanish, Great Britain teams.

Rafael Nadal, despite not playing very well, still won the world No. 280 player Borna Gojo 6-4, 6-3 to help Spain beat Croatia with a total score of 3-0. The home team won the quarterfinals as Group B's best position, while Croatia officially became the former champion.

In Group A, Serbia beat Japan 3-0 in the first match of the group stage. Novak Djokovic beat Yoshihito Nishioka 6-1, 6-2, and Filip Krajinovic beat Yuichi Sugita 6-2, 6-4. Serbia will compete in the quarterfinals with France - the team that won Japan 2-1 in the opening match. The best team in Group A will meet Russia in the quarterfinals.

In Group E, Andy Murray struggled past the world's No. 179 player Tallon Griekspoor after three sets. Former world number one was led 1-4 in the last tie-break set, but still won 6-7 (7), 6-4, 7-6 (5).

"He serves very well, which makes it difficult for me in this game", Murray said after winning. "But I fought to the final points and won deservedly."

Defeating Netherlands 2-1, Great Britain will face Kazakhstan in the last match to compete for the quarterfinals.

2019 is the first year that the prestigious Davis Cup teammates take place with the new format. The final round takes place in Madrid, Spain from January 18-24.

The 18 teams are divided into six groups, choosing the top six teams and the two teams with the best results (based on the set win ratio) for a knockout match. The total prize money of the tournament amounted to 20 million USD.
