Bianca Andreescu won 2019 Rogers Cup after Serena Williams gave up

The 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu was first crowned in her home country of Canada after Serena Williams gave up on being 1-3 in the first set of this year's Rogers Cup final in Toronto.

The 23 Grand Slam trophy champions Serena Williams suffered a back injury - the cause was derived from the semi-final against Marie Bouzkova and made Serena feel pain every time she moved.

In both hand-held games, the 37-year-old American has to face break-points and only wins 39% of the serve, along with being delivered at the 3rd game of the first set.

Struggling to play another game, Serena asked to withdraw when she was 3-1 led by her opponent. "I find it difficult every time I serve. I can't lift the upper part of my body in technical movements. I need active medical treatment", Williams said.

This victory brought the second WTA title to his career to Bianca Andreescu, after the Indian Wells championship in March this year. The young Canadian player will rise to No. 14 on the updated WTA rankings this week.
