Beating Nadal, Djokovic helps Serbia team become the ATP Cup champion

Although losing the first singles' game, Serbia managed to win the final match against Spain thanks to the brilliant form of Novak Djokovic.

To advance to the final match, the Serbia team defeated Russia in the semifinals, while Spain beat Australia.

Lead by two top tennis players namely Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, Serbia and Spain stepped into the last match with the hope to become the first champion of ATP Cup events.

In the first game, Spain took advantage when Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Dusan Lajovic in straight sets, making the situation become much better for his teammates.

If Nadal had beaten Djokovic in the second game, he would have helped Spain become the first champion in the history of the ATP Cup tournament. However, he disappointed the audience after losing Nole in 2 sets, including a defeat in the tie-break in the second set.

It was also the only match that Nadal played in the final match, while Djokovic went on fighting again in the double game. Playing alongside Viktor Troicki, Djokovic and his teammate easily defeated Spain team's Pablo Busta and Feliciano Lopez, gaining one more victory by winning 6-3, 6-4.

In the 2020 ATP Cup, Djokovic played 8 games, which was equal to Nadal. Moreover, he defeated Rafa when two players met in the final match. Consequently, Djokovic believed that he would successfully secure the Australian Open title when the tournament would start after a few following weeks.
