Vietnam U23 goalkeeper fined related to match-fixing scandal

Goalkeeper Y Eli Nie, who represented the Vietnam U23 team in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, was fined due to suspicious behaviors in the Vietnam U19 League.

In the match between Dak Lak U19 and Binh Dinh U19 held on March 3rd, Y Eli Nie made a suspicious mistake that led to a conceded goal.

To be specific, he "passed" the ball to a striker of Binh Dinh U19 team, which made him become one of five players that were fined significantly by VFF.

In terms of Y Eli Nie, the goalkeeper who represented the Vietnam U23 team in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship was fined $220. He was also banned in the next two matches in the Vietnam U19 League.

Speaking about that penalty, Y Eli Nie said he could not understand why he was fined because his team gained a great victory over Binh Dinh U19, winning by a 6-2 score.

As a result, coaches in the Dak Lak U19 team will help him to appeal the fine, but it seems to be too hard to do. However, match-fixing scandals used to be relatively popular in Vietnamese football a few years ago.

In 2014, nine players of the Vietnamese side Ninh Binh FC was banned for life because they were included in fixing the game between their home team with the Malaysian club Kelantan FA.

Two years later, numerous players of Dong Nai FC also did the same thing in the V-League 1.
