OFFICIAL: Philippe Troussier became the new head coach of Vietnam U18

The Vietnam Football Federation has appointed coach Philippe Troussier to replace Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan as head coach of Vietnam U18 at the 2020 U19 AFC Qualifier.

After a heavy defeat at the Southeast Asian U18 tournament in 2019, coach Hoang Anh Tuan has resigned as the head coach of the National U18 team. Accordingly, the Vietnam Football Federation must urgently seek alternative names, because the 2020 U19 AFC Qualifier is near.

With the support from Vietnam Football Talent Development and Investment Fund (PVF), the Vietnam Football Federation will appoint 'white witch' Philippe Troussier as Vietnam U18's head coach. It is known that coach Troussier and his colleagues will start working from the beginning of next week.

Mr. Philippe Troussier was born in France, he has led teams in Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Qatar or Morocco. However, his most impressive achievement was the time he held South Africa to compete in the 1998 World Cup and especially when leading Japan to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

In 1998, Philippe Troussier became the coach of South Africa to attend the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France. Although not able to pass the group stage, but under the guidance of Philippe Troussier, South Africa has also been more or less impressed.

In the same year, experience from the World Cup helped Mr. Philippe Troussier be appointed as the head coach of Japan. This was the moment when he showed his talent by leading "Green Samurai" to win the Asian Cup in 2000, winning the Confederations Cup runner-up in 2001, reaching the round of 16 of the 2002 World Cup team. This time, he brought the Japanese Olympic to the quarterfinals of men's football at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. With such impressive achievements, Philippe Troussier was awarded the "Best Coach of Asia in 2000" award from AFC.

The talent of coach Philippe Troussier helped Japan make history when it first reached the first round of the World Cup. Currently, the French strategist is the Technical Director of PVF, with a professional advisory role to help Vietnamese football to attend the World Cup.

As planned, coach Philippe Troussier will summon 30 players to Vietnam U18 on September 12th. The whole team will gather at the PVF center, to prepare for the 2020 AFC U19 Qualifier in Vung Tau in November. In this tournament, Vietnam U18 is in the same table with Mongolia, Guam and Japan.
