Nguyen Cong Phuong: 'Heading for Sint-Truidense V.V. is the biggest turning point in my career'

Vietnamese triker Nguyen Cong Phuong will officially wear Belgium's Sint-Truidense V.V. team from today July 5th.

When coming to Belgium, communication can be a big obstacle for Nguyen Cong Phuong. Previously at Incheon United, the striker born in 1995 had been commented by the coach as an introverted, less communicating player. This is one of the reasons why this player failed at K.League.

Responding to the question about coming to Belgium to play football because of extracurricular factors, Nguyen Cong Phuong said: "When I received an offer to come to Belgium to play, the club said it would facilitate me to play. They noted my ability is not a problem outside of expertise".

At Sint-Truidense V.V. Club, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong will bring the No. 15 shirt to attend the Belgian league in the 2019/20 season.

I will try my best not to please those who follow me and support me. I also thank those who have followed me for a long time. I will try Do something special to thank the fans' feelings.

I have failed in Japan so after the Asian Cup, I was very excited to export to prove my ability but unfortunately failed. At Sint-Truidense VV has a Japanese CEO and many Japanese nationals. This It is also an opportunity for me to prove my true ability, to let Japanese know that I am not inferior", Nguyen Cong Phuong said.

Nguyen Cong Phuong will face fierce competition in terms of position in Belgium

According to Transfermkart, the Sint-Truidense V.V. club is valued at £24.75 million, almost three times the value of Incheon United. The Belgian National Championship is also at a higher level than K.League. Challenges therefore will become more difficult with Nguyen Cong Phuong.

Not counting Nguyen Cong Phuong if joining, Sint-Truidense V.V. has 8 strikers in the official lineup. In which, two Japanese strikers were Daichi Kamada and Kosuke Kinoshita. In addition, they have Jordan captain Botaka, Haitian striker Duckens Nazon, Ivory Coast striker Yohan Bolli, German player Wolke Janssens. Along with 3 strikers who played in top national championships like Mamadou Sylla (former Espanyol player), Elton Acolatse (mature from Ajax) and Cristian Ceballos (former Barca player).

Nguyen Cong Phuong: Heading for Sint-Truidense V.V. is the biggest turning point in my career

Historically, Sint-Truidense V.V. has never won Belgian First Division A. The best performance of the club is the position of runner-up in 1965. However, this club was four times the champion of the second place in the 1986/87, 1993/94, 2008/09 and 2014/15 seasons. The team once had 2 second visits in the national cup and won the League Cup in 1997.

Sint-Truiden V.V. has just been promoted in the 2015/16 season, but the club's achievements since then have shown many positive things. The ranking of the following season is always higher than the previous season, culminating in the seventh place among 16 teams in the 2018/19 season.

Chairman of Sint-Truidense V.V. appreciates the talent of Nguyen Cong Phuong

Speaking about rookie Nguyen Cong Phuong, Chairman of Sint-Truidense V.V. club said: "We have recognized Nguyen Cong Phuong's ability to watch the match between Vietnamese and Japanese football teams. After 2 exits, Nguyen Cong Phuong still wants to challenge himself at a higher-level football school. I appreciate his bravery. Both Sint-Truidense V.V. and Hoang Anh Gia Lai focus on training young players, then take them abroad to compete to improve and develop their abilities" added the Belgian club president.

When asked why not choose players from more developed Asian football nations such as Iraq and Iran, Sint-Truidense V.V. club president said: "World football has changed very fast. Small countries are also making progress, I am very surprised about the development of Vietnamese football in the past tournaments.

Vietnamese football has very good players. Previously, nobody thought Mohamed Salah could play for Liverpool. Vietnamese football has developed very fast, reaching the level of the continent. 10 years ago, we The percentage of successful Japanese players out of the country is only 50%, the current players are all my own choices and they have confirmed their talents. We are upgrading Asian players".

How powerful is the Belgian team recruiting Nguyen Cong Phuong?

Sint-Truidense V.V. last season ranked seventh in the Belgian national championship, only 2 points behind 6th place Royal Antwerp and missed the tournament play-off round. Without a tie and losing in the last three rounds, even Sint-Truidense V.V. ended the season in the top five. In November 2018, Sint-Truidense V.V. also won the powerful RSC Anderlecht  4-2.

This fact shows that if Nguyen Cong Phuong is here, the Vietnam football team striker will likely not have to struggle with relegation as he did with Incheon United - the weak club in K.League and more used to losing is winning.
