V.League to be postponed again due to the coronavirus outbreak

The Vietnam Professional Football (VPF), the governing body of the V.League, is considering to put the competition on hold owing to the new outbreak of COVID-19 in Vietnam.

Vietnamese top-flight competition @V.League@ 1 has just had its inaugural matchday of the 2020 season last weekend behind closed doors but it is facing the possibility of being postponed once more due to a surprising turn of events.

After 22 days without any newly infected cases of COVID-19, Vietnam recorded a new case being positive with the virus on Friday and the number has kept on going up since then.

A decision to temporarily put the league on hold from the VPF is understandable under this circumstance as a measure to make sure the safety of public health. The first round of second-tier V.League 2 will also probably be postponed.

Previously, all football activities in Vietnam have been put to a halt for the entire of February, which resulted in the change in the opening date of V.League, from February 21 to March 6.

The first round of V.League 1 finished with wins for both reigning champions Hanoi FC and challengers Ho Chi Minh City FC.
