Kiatisuk: "I used to disregard Vietnam, now I know it's wrong"

After seeing Vietnam dominating in all competitions in Southeast Asia, Zico of Thailand said that Vietnamese football developed faster than he thought.

"A few years ago, I used to say that Vietnamese football needed to work hard at least ten years to beat Thailand", said Kiatisuk. "But I was wrong. They developed much faster than I thought".

"After six years, they won both AFF Cup and SEA Games gold medal, replacing Thailand to be the strongest team in Southeast Asia at the moment.

"But the most important thing is most of their key players are just under 23 years old. With them, Vietnamese football can reach greater achievements in the future".

While Vietnam proved the strength, Thailand did not play well in the main competitions. Last year they were knocked out by Malaysia in the semi-final round. A few days ago, "War Elephants" was eliminated at the group stage of SEA Games.

However, form Kiatisuk's point of view, it does not mean Thailand is weaker than Vietnam. The proof is Vietnam did not beat Thailand any time in official matches.

Moreover, when two teams faced each other at SEA Games, Thailand U22 lead by two goals before Vietnam levelled the score.

Kiatisuk believed that bad results in the current matches did not reflect the real strength of the Thailand team. Players, especially youngster need more time to play alongside superstars such as Theerathon and Chanathip.
