FAT president believes coach Akira Nishino will accept the invitation of Thailand

In an effort to extinguish all speculation, the Thai Football Federation (FAT) president Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang reaffirmed that talks with coach Akira Nishino were going smoothly.

In an interview with a reporter at a Japanese airport, coach Akira Nishino denied that he would lead the War Elephants. Over the past few days, public opinion has suggested that he has agreed to lead the Thailand national football team.

This caused rumors to rise but Somyot Poompunmuang and top FAT officials quickly denied the news that the former Japanese coach was dissatisfied with the announcement of oral agreement between him and Thailand football team.

"I do not want to comment much on this issue, but I can tell you that we are in the process of drafting a contract for the appointment of Mr. Akira Nishino," said Somyot Poompunmuang“I also don't want people to come to any conclusions because that will only complicate things and create misunderstandings between FAT and the coach. You can all be assured that we will do what we need to do to bring the greatest benefit to Thailand football”.

At the end of Wednesday, FAT contacted a representative of Mr. Akira Nishino, who confirmed to Thailand officials that Akira Nishino only told reporters that the contract had not been signed.

FAT Vice President, Witthaya Laohakul, added: "Mr. Akira Nishino has a contract with the Japan Football Federation, so I think he needs to solve some things before actually signing a contract. He agreed verbally to become the coach of the Thailand football team. And from what I know about Akira Nishino, I don't think he will change his mind”.

Meanwhile, FAT announced Sirima Panichcheewa as the new manager of The Chaba Kaew and Naruepol Kaenson as their new head coach. Sirima Panichcheewa is the director of Samut Prakan City club in Thai League 1 while Naruepol Kaenson is the head coach of the Thai women's U16 football team.

These positions were vacant after former Nualphan Lamsam manager and head coach Nueangruethai Srathongviang resigned. The resignation came after The Chaba Kaew failed to qualify for the second round of the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
