Samut Prakan City FC has recently appointed former Kashima Antlers coach, Masatada Ishii as their head coach before the new season.

Samut Prakan finished the Thai League 1 2019 in 6th place under the guidance of coaches Surapong Kongthep and Tetsuya Murayama. They will now play in a new era of a different Japanese coach before the first Thai League season.

Samut Prakan ended their 2019 campaign with 43 points after 30 matches - 15 points behind Thai League 1 champions, Chiangrai United and runner-up Buriram United.

52-year-old coach Masatada Ishii was known for leading Kashima Antlers in the J1 League from 2015 to 2017.

He was officially appointed in 2015 and led the club to the 2015 J.League title in his first season. In 2016, Kashima won the J1 League title under the guidance of Ishii and won the right to play at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.

He was named as the J.League's best coach of the 2016 season and made Kashima the first Asian team to reach the FIFA Club World Cup final before they lost 4-2 to the giant Real Madrid in extra time.

Afterward, the Japanese coach was sacked by Kashima in May 2017 and led Omiya Ardija, the team he left in 2018.
