Tampines Rovers came out triumphant at the Singapore Community Shield

Tampines Rovers were off to a flying start with the first championship in the new season at the Singapore Community Shield after defeating Hougang United 3-0.

The Stags dominated right from the early stages of the game but were unable to make the breakthrough before the mid-game break.

10 minutes into the second half, Tampines Rovers successfully broke the deadlock from a beautiful one-two between captain Yasir Hanapi and Irwan Shah, which led to the clinical finish of the latter.

Just 8 minutes later, Irwan Shah again contributed to Tampines Rovers’ second goal, this time, as a provider, who delivered a pinpoint cross to Boris Kopitovic for an easy tap in. The final score 3-0 was stamped at the 70th minute by a strike of Jordan Webb.

With this win, Tampines Rovers have become the most successful club at the Singapore Community Shield with the championship number five.

Originally, the Singapore Community Shield match will take place between the Singapore Cup champions Tampines Rovers and the kings of the Singapore Premier League Brunei DPMM.

Nevertheless, due to the concern about the dangerous escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, Brunei DPMM’s excutives have decided not to attend the pre-season title-earning game.

Despite the change, the Football Association of Singapore still held the match as plan and replaced Brunei DPMM by the Singapore Premier League’s third place team Hougang United.
