2020 Singapore Premier League: Brunei DPMM 2-0 Tampines Rovers: A comfortable win for the host

Brunei DPMM defeated Tampines Rovers 2-0 in their inaugural match at the 2020 Singapore Premier League.

The match was open right from the beginning as the two sides all wanted to get off with a flying start in the new season. Brunei DPMM were the one who broke the deadlock in the 24th minute with the guided header by Charlie Clough after a gorgeous delivery from the free kick by Mohammad Idris.

After conceding the goal, Tampines Rovers pushed their formation more forward in order to find an equalizer. However, their first real response only came in the 40th when Boris Kopitovic released a decent strike after receiving the ball from an accurate long-range pass by maestro Zehrudin Mehmedovic but the effort was not good enough to beat the home team’s goalkeeper Emerson.

The exciting first half ended with a slim lead for Brunei DPMM.

Tampines Rovers had the first goal-scoring opportunity in the second half right in the 47th minute with another shot by Boris Kopitovic from the edge of the 5-yard box, yet again it was denied by Emerson. Nevertheless, that was all the visitors could until the final whistle was blown.

The match was put to bed in the 86th minute with a magnificent individual play by Andrey Varankow. Tampines Rovers’ nightmare evening ended with a red card of Taufik Suparno in the 92nd minute when the frustration got the better of him, which resulted in an ugly play against Brunei DPMM’s Abdul Aziz Tamit.

2-0 for Brunei DPMM was the final score.
