Why is Stephan Schrock vital to the SEA Games 30th's campaign of the host?

With the ambition to win the gold medal at the SEA Games 30th held at home, the Philippines U22 coaching team decided to call veteran Stephan Schrock as one of the two over-age players.

Along with defender Amani Aguinaldo, veteran midfielder Stephan Schrock is one of two faces over-age to be named by coach Goran Milojevic on the list of 20 Philippines players attending the 30th SEA Games men's football at home.

The star born in 1986 is currently part of the Ceres Negros club. He spent a successful year with this club when after crowning in the Philippine League and reached the AFC Cup final (Southeast Asia region).

At the national team level, Schrock also had his first Asian Cup with The Azkals, and before that, he helped the Philippines enter the semi-finals of AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.

The outstanding performance helped Stephan Schrock be named in the AFF Awards 2019 Team of the Year. Besides, he also continued to be trusted by the coaching staff when giving the opportunity to attend the SEA Games 30th with his juniors.

There are 20 players participating in this year's regional sports festival in the Philippines and some of them are the current national players such as Yrick Gallantes, Edison Suerti, and Justin Baas. Of these, 9 footballers are playing overseas. But except for Justin Baas (Jong AZ), there are no outstanding names.

At the SEA Games 30th men's football, Philippines U22 is in Group A with Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Timor Leste. Being in the "light" table (avoiding strong opponents like Vietnam, Thailand or Indonesia) is considered a huge advantage to help "The Azkals" full of hope to win tickets to the semi-finals.

In the SEA Games 2017, U22 Philippines was in the same group with a series of strong opponents, and only finished the group stage in 4th position.
