Myanmar men's and women's football teams receive HUGE prize money for the SEA Games campaign

Advancing to the SEA Games' semi-finals, both Myanmar men's U22 and women's teams received a huge amount of money from the Myanmar Football Federation.

Last night, the official Facebook page of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) released an announcement about the prize money they rewarded for men's and women's teams.

According to that, members of Myanmar women's team will receive 350 million Burmese kyats, which is equivalent to 230,000 US dollars.

In the case of the Myanmar U22 team, their players will have 500 million Burmese kyats, equalling 330,000 US dollars.

The amount of prize will be raised if two teams perform well at the knock-out stage. At 30th SEA Games, Myanmar U22 qualified the group stage as the leading team, winning three of four matches.

On the other hand, Burmese women players also topped on the standing table. They have the same point as the Philippines women's team but win thanks to the fair-play point.

At the semi-finals, Myanmar women's team will face Thailand. At the same time, Myanmar U22 men's team will wait to see the next opponent, which will likely be Indonesia U22 or Thailand U22.

Interestingly, the announcement of MFF caused a controversial topic among Burmese fans.

While many people think that the difference in the prize money between two teams reflects gender discrimination, others argue it is normal.

Not only gaining more attention than the women's team, but also Myanmar U22 men's team played more matches, with four compared to two.
