Indonesia prays for the 40-year-old veteran of Madura United ahead of SEA Games 30th

Earlier this month, Indonesia U22 received bad news when veteran Beto Goncalves was injured and could not attend the 30th SEA Games.

In preparation for the 30th SEA Games, coach Indra Sjafri decided to summon 5 players over 22 years old, including Beto Goncalves, Manhati Lestusen, Hansamu Yama, Evan Dimas and Zulfiandi.

Of these, striker Beto Goncalves is expected to take over the task of Indonesia U22's attack. Although going to turn 39, the Brazilian-born striker is still playing impressively in Madura United's shirt.

The bad news came when Beto Goncalves was injured earlier this month and was unable to gather with Indonesia U22. Initially, Beto was determined to be unable to attend the SEA Games 30th with the team, but recent information from the doctors gave hope for the nearly 40-year-old.

Syarif Alwi Maruapey, Indonesia U22's doctor, said: "We have just done a thorough test of Beto's hamstring injury. Whether Beto can attend the SEA Games or not depends on the coach. I want to calculate the safest solution".

Beto personally shared: "The day before, I practiced in Bali and felt very good. I practiced for about 30 minutes and did not feel any pain. After that, I practiced on the hardcourt. I just felt a little uncomfortable when sprinting".

Currently, coach Indra Sjafri remains silent. He waited for Beto's new tests and level of progress before making the final decision. Beto is the main striker of Indonesia during the past years with 10 goals after 12 appearances.
