'Even Premier League players cannot play well at SEA Games'

Speaking ahead the semi-final match, Myanmar U22's head coach Velizar Popov complained about the regulations. With four games played in one week, no players can perform well, even if they are from Premier League clubs.

"I can understand why many teams got troubles at SEA Games. The problem is not the artificial turf, but the number of matches held in few days", said Popov.

"It is too hard to substitute players or fix errors in the formation. Players cannot change to adapt new tactics because they are greatly tired of playing four games in one week. Fixing just makes everything a mess".

Moreover, team manager of Myanmar U22 said even Premier League players did not play as much as their counterparts at SEA Games.

So far he managed to keep the high team spirits because it was the only method to make young players play well in such situations. Sometimes they just need an iron will to run at a full match instead of the stamina.

In the preliminary round of 30th SEA Games men's football, Myanmar topped Group A with four undefeated matches. However, Popov thought that the results were not as important as the player's performance.

He pointed out that at all four games in the group stage, Myanmar U22 was always the team possessing the match. They won not only in the score but also in the number of shots, passes, and percentage of ball possession.
