Coach Ong Kim Swee hints the reason to deselect Safawi Rasid ahead of SEA Games 30th

Muhammad Safawi Rasid - currently a key player of the Malaysia national team and eligible to participate in the SEA Games 30th but was removed from this nation's U22 squad list.

Muhammad Safawi Rasid, a midfield born in 1997, is considered the mainstay of the national team. Recently, Safawi scored a brace to help Malaysia hosts overcome Indonesia 2-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

But surprisingly, this player was not included in the list of 20 Malaysian U22 players to attend the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

Explaining the reason for Safawi's case, coach Ong Kim Swee of Malaysia U22 team said this midfield had to play continuously in 2019, so he decided to let him rest. Specifically, Safawi played 37 official matches in 2019 (not counting friendly), about 3,088 minutes of play.

Ong's decision not to choose the best player in Malaysia in SEA Games 30th has faced many reactions from football fans in this country. But this strategist still insists the safety of the players is the top priority.

Instead of choosing Muhammad Safawi Rasid, coach Ong Kim Swee has summoned notable players such as midfielder playing for Kansas City Wan Kuzain, Luqman Hakim - who closes to play for Belgian Kortrijk or striker Fagiano Okayama Hadi Fayyadh.
