Cheating? The Philippines cancelled a gold medal for Indonesia after losing the final game

The Philippines dismissed a gold medal in dancesport this morning as the host country lost the final match. They declared the event was treated as "the exhibition game".

At the 30th SEA Games, the breaking girls' competition in dancesport had two countries taking part in: Indonesia and the Philippines. In the only match held, Indonesian girls defeated the host country by 3-2.

However, after the game, the organizers said there would have no medal for the winners because breaking girls was not an official contest at this tournament. Instead of that, it just considered an exhibition game due to limited numbers of teams competing.

Speaking about that, a Philippines official explained: "As SEA Games' regulation, the competitions having two or three nations participating in can be organized, but they are just treated as an unofficial contest".

"As a result, each competition needs at least four countries taking part in to be recognized as an official event. In the case of breaking girls, only two participants competed, so the assembly considered it an exhibition. Therefore, there were no medals for both teams".

However, that explanation was harshly criticized by other countries. An Indonesian citizen said he was sure if the Philippines won, they surely would have not cancelled the gold medal.

The host nation initially wanted to gain as many gold medals as possible by arranging various little contests. But when they lose, they dismiss the result by announcing those are just exhibitions.
