Bruneian royal family members in SEA Games: Many players, but only one of them gained the medal

Faiq Bolkiah is not the only member of the Bruneian royal family that appears in SEA Games. Before him, his brother and sister used to compete at the previous competitions.

At the 30th SEA Games, Faiq Bolkiah became one of the most impressive athletes of the Brunei team, but not by his performance.

He is the son of Jefri Bolkiah, Prince of Brunei and nephew of Hassanal Bolkiah, the current Sultan of Brunei.

Currently, Faiq is playing for Leicester City Football Club, however, he has never played any official match for the senior team for three years.

Besides him, the 30th SEA Games also witnesses the appearance of other members of the Bruneian royal family. Faiq's cousin, Princess Fadzilah Bolkiah is the captain in the Brunei netball team.

On the teamsheet released to the media, she is called as "Her Royal Highness Princess". However, she says that she wants to be considered a normal girl.

This is the first time Princess Fadzilah competes at SEA Games, after missing the previous tournament because of injury. At 34, Fadzilah is one of twelve children of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who got married three times.

Fadzilah's elder brother, Prince Abdul Mateen has represented his country in men's polo team, which gained the bronze medal at 29th SEA Games.

Another brother of her, the Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah took part in the 25th SEA Games held ten years ago. At that time, he was a billiards and snooker player.

Before that, he used to play as a goalkeeper for the Brunei DPMM football club, then bought it. Now Brunei DPMM is the strongest club in Brunei.

But the Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah is not the most interested royal family member appearing his name at SEA Games.

Twenty years ago, Brunei was the host country of the 20th SEA Games. To commemorate that event, the Bruneian royal family released an album that contains six songs written by Prince Sufri Bolkiah, the brother of Sultan.
