Brunei head coach: 'Prince Faiq is the future of our national football team'

Speaking after the defeated match against Thailand, manager Aminuddin Jumat of Brunei U22 praised Faiq Bolkiah. According to him, Faiq is the best player he has in the squad, and this player will improve so much in the future.

At the moment, Faiq Bolkiah is the most important player in the Brunei U22 team competing in SEA Games. Therefore, in the first match against Vietnam U22, he was not named into the application form but appeared in the starting line-up.

Interestingly, Faiq is the son of Jefri Bolkiah, Prince of Brunei and nephew of Hassanal Bolkiah, the current Sultan of Brunei.

Currently, at 21, Faiq is included in Leicester City's squad. However, he has not played any official match for the senior team since 2016. Even in the reserve team, Faiq rarely had a chance to play.

But as a nephew of Brunei's Sultan, Faiq was called up to the Brunei national football team when he was just 18 years old. In 2017, he became the youngest captain in the history of Brunei football.

Aminuddin Jumat, head coach of Brunei U22 has a positive view about the nephew of Sultan's career.

He commented: "Faiq is a great player acquiring impressive skills. He is just 21 years old at present, so the future of Brunei football is in his hands. At clubs level, I believe his ability is good enough to play for many European clubs".

On the contrary, in SEA Games, Faiq hardly showed any world-class level in Brunei U22 as his manager said.

Playing in midfield, he was marked tightly by opponents' players. As a consequence, Brunei U22 could not score any goal in the first two matches.
