A bright future of Cambodia U22 team after SEA Games

Advancing to the semi-finals at the 30th SEA Games men's football is a great success of Cambodia football. But it is not a miracle. With young talents, Cambodia can compete for the gold medal in the next 2 years.

A few days before SEA Games men's football starts, young Cambodia players shocked Southeast Asia in the 2020 AFC U19 qualification round. To qualify for the tournament, they defeated Thailand U19 in the third match.

In that game, Cambodia U19 dominated the game by scoring two goals in the first half before being conceded at the last minutes.

It is the first time Cambodia U19 qualified for the AFC U19 Championship for 40 years, marking the birth of a new golden generation.

As a result, in the next two years, those players will be likely strong contenders at the SEA Games. Beating Thailand U19 in an official match proves that young Cambodian players can challenge any Southeast Asian teams.

They just need to have more time to improve themselves in the future, which makes them go on rising at SEA Games competitions.

The success of Cambodian football in 2019 indicates that their direction in developing football is right. Following Japan, Cambodia built numerous football academies in their country.

Keisuke Honda is not only the general manager of the Cambodia national football team but also owns a club. Only by doing that can Cambodia hope their national team will have the achievements like their predecessors in the past.
