‎‎Competition: 2020 AFC U23 Championship

This was the first time Bahrain U23 qualified for the AFC U23 Championship, however, they knew how to prove their strength before kicking off the tournament.

A few days ago, they beat Vietnam U23 in a friendly match, which showed that they were one of the best teams at the competition.

Before that, they also dominated the qualification round by beating Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Palestine to advance to the event as the leading team of Group B.

Unlike Bahrain U23, Thailand competed at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship as the host nation. At the qualification round, they tried to revenge Vietnam U23 by joining Group K, aiming for beating "Golden Stars".

However, their plan collapsed when they were humiliated by 0-4 defeat, plus a red card is given to striker Supachai. Moreover, at the 30th SEA Games men's football event, Thailand continued showing a disappointing form after being eliminated at the group stage.

Consequently, it was not a surprise when head coach Akira Nishino said that the chance to advance to the knock-out stage of Thailand U23 at the competition was very small.
