The DPR Korea suddenly withdraw from the 2020 Olympic qualifier

In the third qualifying round of the 2020 Olympics, the women football's group A has only 3 teams left after the withdrawal of the DPR Korea.

According to the rules, the 8 strongest teams in Asia are divided into 2 groups to choose the best teams and secondo of each group to the play-off round. Group A consists of hosts South Korea, Myanmar, Vietnam and DPR Korea.

However, the DPR Korea women's team has suddenly withdrawn, leaving Group A with only three teams. The opportunity for Vietnam and Myanmar is increasing as they almost need one win to reach the semi-finals.

In this group, Vietnam is rated higher than Myanmar, as Vietnamese girls defeated Burmese 4-0 to top the Group B of the AFF Cup Women 2018, before winning the tournament. Recently, Vietnam also defended successfully the gold medal of SEA Games.

Otherwise, Group B has the presence of Australia, Thailand, China and Chinese Taipei. At the semi-finals, each team has a home game and an away leg. 2 best teams reaching the final are also Asian representatives to attend Olympic Tokyo 2020, together with the host Japan.
