2020 Olympic Qualifying Playoffs: Australia Women 5-0 Vietnam Women: Easy win for the home side

Australia Women thrashed Vietnam Women 5-0 in the first leg of the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Playoffs.

The home team dominated the game right from the beginning with supremacy in terms of physicality, speed and technique. They had their first goal at the 10th minute from the header in the 5-yard box by Sam Kerr. With this goal, Same Kerr has become the third Matilda to hit the 40th goal mark for the national team.

After the goal, Australia Women continued their endless attacking waves which resulted in the second goal at the 27th minute by Chloe Logarzo and the third one by Emily van Egmond at the 38th minute. The first half ended with the 3-0 advantage for the Matildas.

The second half was another superior performance from Australia Women whereas Vietnam Women only could helplessly try to stay firm under the enormous pressure from the home team.

The fourth goal came at the 67th minute from another beautiful set-up by the Matildas on the wing, which resulted in an easy close-range tap in for Clare Polkinghorne. Sam Kerr finished her double at the 80th minute and also sealed the result of the game at 5-0 for Australia Women.

With this thrashing victory, Australia Women are very near to the 2020 Olympics.
