Indonesia's Women’s top-flight football league to comeback with the 2020 edition

Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has announced its decision to hold the 2020 Liga 1 Putri in the upcoming month.

PSSI chief Mochammad Iriawan affirmed that Indonesia’s football governing body will kick start the new season of top-flight women’s league Liga 1 Putri in the next one to two months and the preparation process has been underway.

The 2019 Liga 1 Putri was its first edition with 10 participating clubs, who were divided into two groups and competed for four spots in the semifinals and ultimately the finals. Both series were taken place with a home-and-away two-legged format.

The first champions of the league were Persib Putri after beating TIRA-Persikabo Kartini 6-1 on aggregate. The best goal scorer was TIRA-Persikabo Kartini’s Insyafadya Salsabilla with 14 goals.

The birth of the league was intended to boost Indonesian women’s football development. The Indonesia women’s national team is currently ranking 19th in Asia and 92nd in the world.
