Coach Sjafri will work at the Indonesia team... as an assistant?

According to PSSI officials, they set to appoint coach Shin Tae Yong to become the manager of the Indonesia national football team.

Under Indra Sjafri's guidance, the Indonesia U22 team played impressively at the 30th SEA Games men's football. However, their performance was not enough to achieve the gold medal at the men's football event.

In the final match, Young Garuda was easily beaten by Vietnam U22 players. It is one of the reasons that made PSSI decide to work with a foreign manager instead of believing in Sjafri.

Among numerous coaches, Shin Tae Yong was the best possible candidate. Speaking to Indonesian media, PSSI General Chairman Mochamad Iriawan said that they and the South Korean coach reached an unofficial agreement.

As a result, it takes time before Shin Tae Yong becomes the head coach of the Indonesia team. Compared to Luis Milla, he was a better choice because he wanted to aim for higher achievements such as the 2020 AFF Cup title.

If Shin Tae Yong works as the Indonesia national football team manager, PSSI will find some local coaches to help him as assistants.

PSSI Deputy Chairperson Cucu Soemantri said that they would appoint two or three Indonesian coaches, including Indonesia U22 team manager Indra Sjafri. But they did not anything about the number of South Korean assistants who Shin Tae Yong could bring from his country to Indonesia.
