Coach Indra Sjafri's fate to be deciced after the failure in SEA Games 30th's final

Indonesia Football Federation (PSSI) president Mochamad Iriawan has officially announced that he would not negotiate a contract with coach Indra Sjafri following the Indonesia 22's failure to win the gold medal in the SEA Games 30 men's football.

According to the Indonesian press, the defeat was only disappointed by their fans but also made PSSI unhappy. Nonetheless, Mr. Iriawan still appreciated the efforts of the young players at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.

In addition to praising the performance of young talent Osvaldo Haay (who shared the top scorer" with Ha Duc Chinh when scoring 8 goals, the head of PSSI confirmed that he would not discuss the extension contract with Sjafri as a coach of the Indonesia U23 team.

“About the fate of Indra Sjafri in Indonesia U23, we will discuss later because there is still time. We will also negotiate with two other coaches: Shin Tae-Yong or Luis Milla. We will evaluate all the coaches later this year. I would like to especially thank the coaching staff that led the Indonesia U23 team in recent times”, Mr. Iriawan said.

Mr. Shin Tae-yong (the former Korean coach at the 2018 FIFA World Cup) officially rejected PSSI's offer to join Shenzhen FC, the team playing in the Chinese second division. Recently, Italian coach Vincenzo Annese (recently fired by PSIS Semarang Club) has just confirmed his candidacy for the position of Indonesia national football team and U23 team head coach.

Earlier, when the 30th SEA Games men's football final to be held, Mr. Indra Sjafri was considered a bright candidate for the Indonesian coach position if he overcame Vietnam U22 to win the gold medal. The 56-year-old tactician also had certain success by helping Indonesia U22 crowned 2019 AFF U22 Championship earlier this year.

In a statement to the Indonesian press, coach Sjafri confirmed the PSSI farewell and he has no plans for what to do next. Meanwhile, the PSSI President emphasized that he would recommend for most of the young talents in the Indonesia U22 to be called to the national team for the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in March next year.
