OFFICIAL: Southeast Asian countries will race to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup

At the ASEAN Summit held in Thailand, leaders in Southeast Asia discussed plans to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup finals.

According to the New Straits Times, in the 34th ASEAN Summit program held in Bangkok, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said leaders in Southeast Asia are committed to supporting to launch the competition to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

He shared in the press conference: "I want to call on all the people of Southeast Asia to support their countries and their football federation to realize this dream. We can all do it together.

Last year, former FIFA Executive Committee member, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah, said football regulators from Indonesia and Thailand had expressed interest in co-hosting the 2034 World Cup.

Mr. Abdullah said that by the time ASEAN needs to have the opportunity to become the host of the most attractive football field on the planet, this will allow countries to improve their infrastructure and strengthen their national team.

Earlier, the Bangkok Post reported that many Southeast Asian foreign ministers agreed to adopt the content of the right to host the World Cup 2034 at the ASEAN Summit meeting on June 23th in Bangkok, Thailand.

The idea of the World Cup finals - ASEAN was soon formed earlier. Thai Football Federation President (FAT) Somyot Poompunmuang said that since September last year, Thailand and Indonesia have tried to propose to host the world's largest football event in 2034.

Historically, Korea and Japan are the two countries in Asia co-hosting the 2002 World Cup. Qatar will become the third host country in the continent to host the World Cup in 2022.

The 2026 World Cup is determined to be organized in three American countries, Canada, Mexico and the United States. Some candidates have also lined up to stand for election to host the 2030 World Cup. Many football federations work together to run for election, such as Argentina football, Uruguay and Paraguay. Egypt is also expected to run for the bid to host the 2034 World Cup.
