OFFICIAL: Indonesia won the right to host the 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup

At the FIFA Council meeting this morning, good news came to Southeast Asia football, specifically for Indonesia as they become the host of 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup.

On the morning of October 24th, in Shanghai, China, the FIFA Council meeting took place with the presence of President Gianni Infantino. Then, the World Football Federation has made some important decisions regarding the next big tournaments in the FIFA tournament system.

Most notably, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced the host countries of the U17, U20 FIFA World Cup together in 2021.

Accordingly, Indonesia has officially defeated Peru and Brazil, thereby becoming the host of the 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup. This is great news not only for Indonesia but also for Southeast Asia's sports. The 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup will be the first time that a major FIFA football festival comes to the region that has long been considered the low-development of world football.

The decision to choose Indonesia to host the 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup is likely to be the start of a series of successes in Southeast Asian football. Recently, ASEAN has also proposed to form an alliance to compete for the right to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Apart from Indonesia, the good news also comes to Peru when they will be the host of the 2021 FIFA U17 World Cup, while Russia was chosen to host the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

As expected, the 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup will take place from May 20th to the end of June 21st, 2021. Ukraine is currently the champion of this tournament.
