Why does Indonesia football still keep coach McMenemy after a series of losses?

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) expects Scottish coach Simon McMenemy to proactively resign so they do not have to pay compensation to him.

Coach Simon McMenemy signed with PSSI a 2-year contract in December 2018. His salary could be up to 218,000 USD per year. The Scottish coach now has more than a year in his contract.

If McMenemy is fired, PSSI will have to pay $218,000 in compensation, equivalent to a year of the contract. Many officials of PSSI do not want to lose so much money.

"We asked him to resign. If we fire McMenemy, he will surely claim his rights", admitted Refrizal, member of the Indonesian Football Association Executive Committee.

Bola claimed that no PSSI member wanted coach McMenemy to remain in the Indonesian team. However, in the final decision to let this tactician go, the internal PSSI is not still unanimous. The association will have a meeting on November 2nd to decide whether or not to dismiss coach McMenemy.

"The Indonesian team is in a tight situation. We are also under a lot of pressure from our fans", said Refrizal.

Earlier, he admitted he wanted McMenemy to resign, instead of being dismissed by PSSI: "McMenemy's fate will be decided after the meeting. But in my opinion, it is best for him to be aware of the situation and resign before the PSSI meeting takes place ".

Indonesia at the hands of this Scotland coach has repeatedly lost in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Through 4 matches played, Indonesia lost all, scored 3 goals and conceded 14 times.

On October 15th, Mr. McMenemy's team lost to Vietnam with a score of 1-3 at home. After that defeat, many supporters screamed and urged PSSI to sack the Scottish coach.
