The No. 1 Asian team got bad news ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers

The No. 1 Asian team, Iran has received bad news about the force before the important match against Iraq in the 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Iranian national striker Mehdi Taremi could miss an important match against Iraq in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia. Joining Portugal's Rio Ave club from Al-Gharafa (Qatar), Taremi started this year's impressive campaign with 8 goals in just 4 matches.

In the recent Pacos de Ferreira and Rio Ave matches, Taremi met bad luck when he was forced to leave the pitch due to an ankle injury. The doctor team reported that the Iranian striker will be sidelined for two to three weeks and that means Taremi will not be able to return to focus with Iran in November.

According to the 2022 World Cup qualifying schedule, Iran will march to Basra National Stadium to be a guest of Iraq on November 14th. In Group C, Iran is in third place with 6 points, while Iraq and Bahrain are sharing the top spot with 7 points.

Losing to Bahrain in the previous match not only made Iran lose the top position in Group C but also made them drop 4 places to 27th in the world rankings (FIFA). However, coach Marc Wilmots' team is still number 1 in Asia.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier (AFC) with the participation of 40 teams is divided into 8 tables, each group consists of 5 teams competing in a circle format. The top 8 teams in each group and the second best-performing teams will advance to the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as winning tickets to the Asian Cup 2023 tournament held in China.
