RIVAL!!! Vietnam biggest star point out the toughest team at World Cup qualifier

In a recent interview, midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai said that only Thailand could prevent Vietnam's progress at the 2022 World Cup qualifier.

In 2020, Vietnam will participate in two major tournaments, the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020, and especially the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia. After 5 matches, Park Hang Seo's team is now standing at the top of Group G with 11 points, thereby having a lot of hope to advance to the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

In the last match, the team of Coach Park Hang Seo had a goalless draw on My Dinh Stadium against Thailand. Thus, in both legs in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Vietnam and Thailand could not find each other's net.

More significantly, Thailand is also the only team that can hold a draw against Vietnam in this group. That is the reason Nguyen Quang Hai highly appreciates the strength of the Thai team. The Vietnam midfielder said:

“The match against Malaysia of course is not easy for the Vietnamese team, but Thailand is the only team that caused us trouble.

Other teams may cause difficulties for Vietnam, but overall we still control the game. However, there is a slight difference when facing Thailand. Thai players always play very well and confidently when facing us".

In addition, Quang Hai thinks that Thai players seem to play with more than 100% of their energy and determination when facing Vietnam. This makes War Elephant a tough opponent for Vietnam at every encounter:

"Although Thailand was defeated by Malaysia in the first leg, the match did not reflect much. Every time confronting Vietnam, it feels like Thailand tends to play a lot better than usual.

Especially in the second match at My Dinh Stadium. We would have had a lot more difficulties without the excellence of Dang Van Lam".

In the next round, Thailand will host the bottom team Indonesian at home. This is an opportunity for coach Akira Nishino's team to close the gap with Vietnam, as the team of Coach Park Hang Seo will be off in the upcoming round on March 26th.
