Nepal to postpone FIFA World Cup Qualifiers ties due to COVID-19

Nepal’s upcoming home games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers group B will be rescheduled owing to the concern over the coronavirus outburst.

Recently, Nepalese government has issued a nationwide ban on all sports activities until further notice. Although having had only one case infected by the deadly virus (eventually cured) by now, the drastic pre-caution measure of Nepal is understandable, given that the likes of Italy, Germany, France, which are the countries far away from the center of the pandemic, China,  witnessed the plague burst in their countries because they took COVID-19 lightly and did not have good enough preparation.

As a result of the government’s decision, even cricket, the most popular sport in Nepal, with the top-flight Everest Premier League also has to postpone the inaugural day of the new season. And football, including the international level, suffered from the same fate.

Nepal national team were due to host Chinese Taipei on March 26 and Australia on March 31 in Kathmandu. However, complying to the ban, these ties will most likely have to be pushed back or took place in an alternative venue.

Nepal are ranking 4th in group B with only five points out of five games.
