NATURALIZATION AGAIN! UAE to add 2 South American strikers for upcoming World Cup qualifier matches

The West Asian team showed their determination to compete for the third round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying - AFC region.

On January 20th, two strikers Caio Canedo and Sebastian Tagliabue have officially received the UAE citizenship. Thus, the two strikers can play in the AFC Champions League 2020 as domestic players, as well as playing for the UAE national team in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches.

Of the two names above, Argentinian striker Sebastian Tagliabue is more appreciated. He spent many years playing in South America before moving to the UAE in 2013. The 34-year-old striker scored 143 goals and had 23 assists after 148 appearances in the UAE league (according to Transfermarkt).

Meanwhile, Caio Canedo who born in Timor-Leste had the intention to play for the Southeast Asian national team. The 29 years old Brazilian striker is playing for Al Ain, the top club of the UAE.

Caio Canedo used to play for top Brazilian clubs like Botafogo or Internacional. This season, he scored 5 goals and had 1 assist after 9 appearances in the UAE Arabian Gulf League.

The UAE national team is ranked 4th in Group G. The West Asian team has 6 points - 5 points lower than the leading team Vietnam but playing less than one match.

According to the schedule, the UAE will welcome Malaysia on March 26th. Afterward, they come to the field of Indonesia on March 31st, before returning home to face Thailand (June 4th) and Vietnam (June 9th).

In an attempt to compete for the final qualification in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the United Arab Emirates Football Association sacked coach Bert van Marwijk in November 2019. The new coach of the UAE national football is Serbian coach Ivan Jovanovic.

It is clear that the naturalization is the 'trend' in Group G, as the Football Association of Malaysia is considering naturalize striker Rufino Segovia del Burgo, who used to play for Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid, after the success of striker Mohamadou Sumareh.
