Malaysia vs UAE post-match: Bert van Marwijk believes only UAE can win at Bukit Jalil Stadium

Coach Bert van Marwijk believes that only the UAE can win at Malaysia's Bukit Jalil Stadium, among the teams in Group G of the 2022 World Cup qualifying round.

The UAE team had a match on Bukit Jalil Stadium against Malaysia team. They were ahead of their opponents relatively early, but Ali Mabkhout's two goals helped the UAE bring back 3 points. This is the first official match of coach Bert van Marwijk since being appointed in March.

This victory helped the UAE get a good start in Group G, the group considered deadly with the presence of Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Although Malaysia ranked 159th in the FIFA rankings, less than the UAE (ranked 65th) nearly 100 places, they have caused a lot of difficulties for Bert van Marwijk's team.

Having won the first game, the Dutch strategist proved very happy. He said during the post-match press conference: "We started the game very badly, everyone can see it. We conceded right after the first 40 seconds. We also couldn't gain control of the ball and lost the game during the first half.

Our weakness is in the left-wing corridor. I tried to fill that up but it wasn't easy. After increasing manpower, it was resolved in the second half. Malaysia's left-wing climbing phases were no longer effective.

Entering the second half, we were completely different from before. Malaysia was tired and we completely dominated the game. At least 3 to 4 delicious chances were created in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

The Malaysia coach was also very good, he realized the problem and quickly changed players. I know the team will be in trouble but we still do it well. We are extremely happy because I believe that in this group maybe we can only win at home in Malaysia".

In the next match, the UAE team will welcome Indonesia at home on October 10th, then 5 days will be a trip to Thailand.
