Iran plays a friendly match against the 163-lower-rank team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier

The Iranian national team is preparing to face Bangladesh in a friendly on September 5th, just some days before the opening match of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Iran of head coach Marc Wilmots will have a trip to Hong Kong for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier and 2023 Asian Cup Group Qualifier match on September 10th before confronting Southeast Asian rival Cambodia in Tehran.

However, they are hoping to perform well in a friendly match against Bangladesh on September 5th, five days before the clash with Hong Kong. The match will be played in Doha, Qatar, where the team is based.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh defeated Laos 1-0 in the first qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was placed on the same table as Oman, India, Afghanistan and AFC Asian Cup champion Qatar in Group E. They will face Afghanistan in the away game on September 10th.

According to the Tehran Times, the Iranian Football Federation (FFIRI) and Bangladesh Football Federation are negotiating a schedule to prepare for the match.

Iran football is the top ranked national team in Asia, ranking 20th in FIFA World Ranking while Bangladesh ranks 183th.

The top eight teams as well as the best four runner-up teams will advance to the third round and also the final Asian Region qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar. This result is also used for the Asian Cup held in China in 2023.

The next 24 best teams from the second round will compete for the remaining 12 positions in the 24-team Asian Cup in a separate qualifier.
