AMBITION!!! Here is Malaysia's plan to take the top spot of the World Cup qualifier next year!

Coach Tan Cheng Hoe was soon scheduled for two matches against the UAE and Vietnam in Group G qualifying for the second round of the 2022 World Cup next year, by requesting the Malaysia football federation (FAM) to quickly schedule 2 friendly matches.

Currently, Malaysia is ranked second in Group G with 9 points, 2 points behind Vietnam after 5 matches. According to the schedule, the team of coach Tan Cheng Hoe will meet the host UAE (6 points) on March 26th, 2020 and welcome Vietnam at Bukit Jalil (March 31st, 2020).

Therefore, the 51-year-old tactician has asked FAM to organize two friendly matches before facing the UAE in order to occupy the top of Group G.

Coach Cheng Hoe also suggested that two friendly matches must be held in West Asia so that his players can get used to the weather and time zone before facing the UAE host at Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi.

“With FAM, our focus is on how to prepare well for the next two matches in March. If a friendly match is not enough, he (Cheng Hoe) wants 2 matches, so we will plan to schedule”, FAM Vice President Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said.

Latest, Mr. Tan Cheng Hoe's early preparation is aimed to bring Malaysia to the third round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which means winning official tickets to the Asian Cup 2023 in China.

“We will meet him (Cheng Hoe) later this year when he presents the team's plan. In addition, we ask him to devise solutions to improve and strengthen the national team. FAM will provide 100% support as long as Tan Cheng Hoe's request is justified”, added Mr. Yusoff.

According to FAM, coach Cheng Hoe and FAM are targeting Malaysia to earn at least 4 points in the two matches against UAE and Vietnam next year. FAM Vice President emphasized: “Four points will bring us at least one of the 4 best second-place teams to win tickets. If we get good results in the last match in Bangkok (against Thailand) in June next year, it will bring us to the third round. That is our objective".

Indeed, the competition for tickets in Group G promises is now dramatic in the following matches. In particular, Vietnam and UAE are evaluated to have many advantages over Malaysia and Thailand (8 points).

Although the UAE is now ranked 4th place and has just fired head coach Bert Marwijk, they will be playing 3 of the remaining 4 matches at home, including the welcome to Vietnam in the last match.

Meanwhile, Vietnam will have great hope to continue to the third round if they get good results on the Malaysian field, before welcoming Indonesia in My Dinh stadium one June.
