Rafael Benitez receives a $15 million seasonal salary in China after managing Dalian Yifang

The Spanish coach Rafael Benitez took charge in Dalian Yifang, less than 24 hours after Choi Kang-hee resigned.

On the afternoon of July 2nd, Rafael Benitez took office as the manager at the Dalian Yifang club. Sports Mail said the former Liverpool manager received a $ 15 million post-tax payment in China, double his pre-tax salary at Newcastle.

"In the past few years, China has gained worldwide attention thanks to Super League. I and my colleagues will try to bring the experience at the top European clubs to Dalian to work. Our goal is to create a foundation for success both now and in the future. What I see here is a huge project, and we are completely confident to embark on this challenge, "Benitez said in his inauguration.

Before arriving in Dalian, Benitez led Newcastle and offered to continue to lead "Scramble" when the old contract expired in June 2019. However, he did not reach an agreement with owner Mike Ashley, and became a free man from July 1st.

Benitez joined Dalian Yifang less than 24 hours after the former coach Choi Kang-hee resigned. His new club has two famous stars: Marek Hamsik and Yannick Carrasco. Last season, Dalian ranked 11th on the scoreboard, inferior to the AFC Champions League 23 points.

In the Super League this season, 12 of the 16 participating teams are currently led by the foreign coach. Benitez, along with Fabio Cannavaro (Heng Dai Guangzhou), Quique Sanchez Flores (Shanghai Flower), and Dragan Stojkovic (Guangzhou Power) are the most famous. The first challenge of the 59-year-old leader in the new position is the encounter against Henan Jianye on July 7th.

The owner of Dalian Yifang is China's richest billionaire, Zhang Lin. According to Forbes, his total assets at the end of June 2019 were estimated at $ 21.7 billion.
