MYSTERY: India U23's withdrawal at South Asian Game because the opponents are TOO WEAK?

At the 2019 South Asian Games men's football, India decided not to take part in, which made the host nation changed the rule.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) spoke nothing about the reason why they withdrew from men's football event at the 2019 South Asian Games. On the other hand, the India U23 team regularly participated in all their possible tournaments in 2019.

This year, they played numerous friendly matches as well as games at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualification. In early 2019, the India senior teams also appeared at the Asian Cup, and they played very well.

It seems that India does not interested in achieving the gold medal at the South Asian Games. Since 2002, their best achievement is just the silver medal which they claimed two times.

In the last competition, they lost Nepal U23 in the final match. It is too hard to know why a strong team appearing at the Asian Cup finds it hard in their region. The only reason is their opponents are not worthy of playing against.

Currently, India's place at FIFA ranking is 108, while Nepal's is 170. Bangladesh's, Bhutan's, Maldives' and Sri Lanka's positions are 187, 189, 155, and 205, respectively.

Competing against the weakest teams in the region does not help India improve the level, so they choose to withdraw from unofficial tournaments.
