Entering the first match of Group D, both Vietnam U23 and the UAE U23 have chosen safe play. The two did not rise their formation too high but mostly put the ball on the wingers to create chances.

Although both teams played simply, players on the pitch created many opportunities. On the Vietnamese side, Nguyen Tien Linh and Ha Duc Chinh had many threats to the goal but could not take advantage of due to lack of luck and somewhat indecisive actions.

On the other hand, the UAE side creates more dangerous opportunities, especially the situation in the 40th minute when Ali Saleh broke down on the left-wing, fortunately, his teammates definitely lacked precision in front of the goal.

The player who did not play well on the Vietnamese side in this match was Huynh Tan Sinh. And it was Tan Sinh who made a foul just outside the penalty area at the beginning of the second half that the referee Taqi pointed to the 11-meter spot. However, VAR saved Vietnam U23 and Huynh Tan Sinh did not have to receive the second yellow card.

Not long after that, Nguyen Quang Hai released a beautiful ball for Nguyen Hoang Duc to shoot with a strong left foot. The UAE defender, however, managed to make a clearance, the ball seemed to have slammed his hand but there was no penalty.

Minutes later, both teams created their own opportunities but overall there was no goal. The match ended with a 0-0 draw. Although a bit regretful, this result is acceptable for UAE U23 as Vietnam U23 is the strongest opponent in the group.

‎‎Competition: 2020 AFC U23 Championship

Vietnam U23 participated in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship by the core players who just won the SEA Games gold medal 1 month ago. It can be said that this is a very talented group of Vietnamese football players that has a lot of experience in many different tournaments.

On the other hand, despite ranked only the fourth seed of the tournament, UAE U23 is still a remarkable name. Their national team is very strong despite losing to Vietnam in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers. As for the U23 team, they have many notable names.

Especially, Mohamed Al Shamsi, the goalkeeper of the UAE Olympic who won the Vietnam Olympic Games at ASIAD 2018 can make an impact. Other names such as Mohammed Al Attas, Khalifa Al Hammadi, Majed Suroo, Al-Sharjah all wore national caps in their careers.

The UAE U23 does not have much time to prepare for the 2020 U23 AFC Championship because their players just finished the national league in early January. However, all the best names in the UAE U23 football generation are present and they are completely confident in having a good result.

On the side of Vietnam U23, the biggest star Nguyen Quang Hai is ready to return to play and this is a good sign for this team. Quang Hai along with Nguyen Tien Linh & Ha Duc Chinh will form an impressive set of 3 quality attacking players.
