UAE players banned to comment about Vietnam U23

UAE U23 officials said that they did not allow UAE players to say anything about the opponents at the AFC U23 Championship.

Today, the UAE U23 team left for Thailand to compete at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship. After landing in Bangkok, UAE U23 player Yahia Nader said that he and his teammates were ready to play at the competition.

Speaking about other opponents, including the Vietnam U23 team, he revealed that he was not allowed to comment on anything about Golden Stars.

Before going to Thailand, UAE U23 officials set the rules that asked players not to answer without the confirmation from General Manager Jamal Buhandi.

At the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, UAE U23 was drawn into Group D alongside Vietnam, North Korea, and Jordan U23. They will play the first match against Vietnam on January 10th.

It is a good chance for UAE U23 to revenge Golden Stars after losing them at the World Cup qualification round, which made coach Bert van Marwijk be sacked.

In the past, the best result of UAE at AFC U23 Championship competitions was to advance to the quarter-finals, which they successfully did in 2013 and 2016 events.

To qualify for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, UAE U23 defeated Lebanon and Maldives before drawing against Saudi Arabia at the qualification round. They had the same points with Saudi Arabia but won thanks to scoring more goals.
